The Atlantic introduces ad-free subscription model

The Atlantic began asking visitors with ad blockers installed to either whitelist the site and view ads or pay 3.99/month ($39.99/year) for a new ad-free subscription. Users currently have the option to dismiss the request, however, later in the year, visitors will be forced to pick one of the two options in order to access the content.

In addition to the new subscription offering, The Atlantic announced ongoing upgrades to improve its user experience, including: improvements to page speed and ad integrations, introduction of third party ad monitoring to prevent malware, and a site-wide transition to HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure).
