NMC was founded in 1938 by J.J. (Joe) Swanson, a highway engineer for the Wyoming Department of Transportation and W.A. Norris, a Wyoming contractor. The company's first facility was located on West Front Street in North Platte, Nebraska. A second facility was opened in Scottsbluff in 1941. In 1948 following a very successful partnership, Joe Swanson bought the company from Norris. In 1953 Joe's son, Jerry Swanson, joined the company and served in a number of positions before becoming president in 1984. In 1991 Joe's second son, Duane Swanson, was appointed president and currently serves on the company's board of directors. Today, Jerry Swanson's two sons are the third generation of family at NMC. Rich Swanson serves as President & CEO and John Swanson serves as Executive Vice President – Chairman of the Board.
NMC operated out of North Platte and Scottsbluff for more than 40 years and in 1978, NMC built a new facility in North Platte - the first in a series of expansions. In 1983, the company bought the Missouri Valley Machinery Company Caterpillar dealership in the Omaha area, adding 22 counties to the company's sales territory. With this purchase, NMC began operating stores in Omaha and Norfolk and at that time, Omaha became the Corporate Headquarters. In 1987, NMC added 30 counties in southeast Nebraska and the addition of the Lincoln and Doniphan stores with the acquisition of Lincoln Equipment Company. Presently we serve 92 out of 93 (Nebraska) counties and Pottawattamie County in Iowa for our Caterpillar dealership.
In 1999, NMC opened its first rental store in Omaha, and then expanded the rental store concept across the state by providing a complete line of light construction equipment, aerial lift and other rental intensive products utilized in the building construction industry.
In 2003, NMC constructed a new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters facility in Omaha and recently authorized the construction of a cutting edge dedicated truck shop facility in Lincoln off Interstate 80, which was completed in January 2006.
In the spring of 2004, NMC received the opportunity to purchase Two Rivers Lift and Equipment based in Des Moines, Iowa. A strong commitment to the material handling industry and skilled management teams made the merger with NMC a good fit. On July 16, 2004, Two Rivers Lift and Equipment became a wholly owned subsidiary of NMC. The acquisition resulted in new facilities in Des Moines and Mason City and extends our material handling coverage to 51 total counties in Iowa.
Today, NMC employs over 600 people. Branch locations in Nebraska are located in Columbus, Doniphan, Lincoln, Norfolk, Omaha, North Platte and Scottsbluff. Iowa branches are located in Mason City and Des Moines. NMC serves a diverse customer base which includes the construction, industrial, agricultural and material handling industries. We provide a comprehensive line of products and services to meet the changing needs of our customers. By continually striving to improve our offerings of world class products and product support services the company will continue to grow, to look forward and to focus on helping customers make their business ventures more successful.

During Eisenhower's first term as President, the country was in pretty good shape, and a local boy, Don Hedtke, had just returned from the Korean War.
Hauling ashes (as it was called back then) became a career of choice. Don drove an old pick-up truck through the neighborhoods, knocking on doors and looking for full ash cans.
Two bits a barrel, cash, was the typical charge. Adams Disposal was his first employer, but soon he struck out on his own.
In 1955, ACE was born when Don, his brother, and a friend combined forces. they spent the next 37 years building a history of service.
In 1992, Andy and Tim Schweizer saw the value of ACE and purchased the company from Dean Warden and Bill Hedtke. Located in Andover, the company had 25 garbage trucks and 25,000 loyal customers in a growing community. Confident in themselves and their people, the brother invested time and money in a service organization that is built to last. Today, with a new facility in Ramsey, 55 trucks, and 65,000 customers, ACE continues to be the local neighborhood hauler.
Many books have been written on how to be successful in business. Strategic planning, beating the competition, and having the latest technology are all said to be keys to success. Each has its place, but in business and in life, values and vision guarantee lasting success. When it was time to join forces with other haulers, ACE did it. When driver safety needed improvement, ACE gave customers carts to reduce manual lifting. When the community asked for curbside recycling, ACE provided it. When technology improved, ACE was one of the first companies to offer two-sort recycling. In 2004, to increase convenience for our yard waste customers, ACE began offering organics collection carts. Now, single-sort recycling is being integrated using a wheeled container similar to your garbage cart. It will be the largest single monetary investment in ACE history.
The owner and the employees at ACE are committed to defining a company culture for ourselves and our customers. Our culture values service, honesty, and trust. We recognize our role in the community, both every day on the street (safety, service, professionalism) and through the years as part of the local economy (jobs, tax base, local charities).
