This website has come about from a great love of cross stitch and years of searching and buying over the internet. My sister (Colleen) and I decided to open our own web store which incorporates all those features that we wished the other cross-stitch sites had. Our intention was to keep the site simple and easy to negotiate, easy to order and to provide a happy one-stop and safe online shopping experience.
Living in the New Hampshire countryside I know how difficult it is to find a store within a 50 mile radius who can supply me with everything I need from floss, fabric and wide selection of charts and kits, all in the one place and at a price I can afford - we have endeavored to provide all of this on our site. Most of the products and designs on our website have been added at the suggestion of our customers who regularly email us with requests.

With a mission and desire to keep the art of Norwegian Hardanger embroidery alive for future generations, Nordic Needle was born in 1975. Owners, Sue Meier and Roz Watnemo, have seen their business grow from a small (under 400 square feet) local needlework shop in downtown Fargo, ND, to its current location in Fargo, with customers all over the world. Nordic Needle has grown to a world-wide business specializing in not only Hardanger Embroidery, but counted cross stitch, silk ribbon embroidery, Brazilian embroidery, canvaswork, tatting, and many other fine embroideries as well. Sue and Roz are still active participants in the business; Roz is involved in creating 3 retail catalogs per year, researching and choosing new merchandise, writing e-mail newsletters, designing new Hardanger embroidery patterns, and answering daily customer e-mails, while Sue, now semi-retired, still focuses on finding new products for the wholesale side of the business.

Our patternmaker Michael Smith has twenty-two years experience in all phases of apparel pattern making and garment construction. Michael began as an apprentice patternmaker with a large apparel manufacturer of woven dress and sport shirts in 1988. He learned his skills under the guidance of a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology. For several years he studied pattern drafting by hand and manual pattern grading.
With the new found computer demands in the industry, Michael decided to increase his knowledge of computers and returned to school. He completed his Associate's degree in Computer Information Science in November of 1996. In 1997 he made the decision to leave the company and attend school fulltime where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Science in June of 1998.
During the time at school Michael was presented an opportunity, when he was offered a position as head patternmaker for a large manufacturer of healthcare products (Patient Gowns, Scrub pants & shirts, Sheets, pillow cases, Surgical Gowns and Drapes, ETC.). This was where he made the switch to the Gerber AccuMark System. During the next four years he was responsible for all pattern making, pattern grading and production concerns.
